Expanding 1Gary Clarke 2007 Acrylic on canvas 40x40cm
£295.00
This is the first in the circle series. The beginning without end, the circle is a symbol of unity and holds an endless fascination for me, and the motif that occurs most often in my work. Meditating on the nature of expansion has revealed its fundamental importance. Expansion takes many forms, physical mental and spiritual, in which thoughts of increase draw more of the same, and has enabled me to view my current situation from a different perspective.

Expanding 2Gary Clarke 2009 Acrylic on canvas 40x40cm
£295.00
Further exploration on the theme of expansion and a counterpoint to Expanding 1. The circles appear to float in the surrounding space and brings me to a point of stillness and quiet. It is quite noticeable when comparing the two paintings of the effect of colour on the psyche and mood.

GoldGary Clarke 2009 Acrylic on canvas 30x30cm
£75.00
One of a series of three paintings, the others, red and blue, were painted in one session. The iridescent gold shimmers against the light and contrasts vividly with the deep blue. The paintings remind me of looking into deep space and seeing planetary systems form.

Deep BlueGary Clarke 2009 Oil on canvas 25x30cm
Deep Blue and it's companion painting Deep Red form two parts of one work. The work developed out of looking at the mutually enhancing and supportive relationship between seeming differences. The primary colours of blue and red, which when mixed together produce the higher colour of purple were used to symbolise this aspect of seeing and experiencing. Meditation on this theme brings insight.

Arising 1Gary Clarke 2008 Acrylic on canvas 50x60cm
£195.00
One of an ongoing series in which the golden circle represents our highest point within, the place of deepest contentment and peace. For each of us this takes its own form and course. The textured surface and blending of gold and light blue represent our movement towards this point.

ConnectingGary Clarke 2008 Oil and Acrylic on canvas 50x50cm
Connecting was my first work inspired by the city. It began as a series of rigidly shaped squares, but as so often happens an unintended mark on the canvas completely transformed the painting and expanded the space.
